In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I want to share one of his powerful quotes.
Whether you have been hurt by words or criticism from others (especially through social media) or had a traumatic experience, such as being physically or emotionally abused by someone close to you, these wounds can leave you with lasting feelings of anger and bitterness. Those feelings can become toxic and you can actually embody them and become physically sick.
I have personally experienced this, as for many years I was bound by anger, bitterness and unforgiveness. My life radically changed in 2006 when I choose to release all of those who wronged me. I even had to forgive myself for mistakes and wrong choices. When I realized how much I had been forgiven by Jesus, and His finished work on the cross, I was able to release others of the burden I was carrying. As a result, I had miraculous healings take place in my body.
Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. It involves a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. It allows you to move forward in life and not be stuck. It does not mean that a situation did not occur or are excusing the harm done to you or even making up with the person who caused the harm. Although it is a decision, it is also a process.
