A couple of years ago, I was taking my twin sons to school and we heard an advertisement on the radio for a local Christian school. On of my sons, who was nine at the time, asked me if this was the school their friend went to. I replied that it was. He then said, “Christian…just turn it around!” I was taken by surprise and asked him to repeat what he had said. He repeated it and my mind swirled with thoughts, yet I still didn’t understand. Like being asked a riddle, I needed him to explain. He confidently replied, “Christian…just turn it around: ‘In Christ,’ that is how we are to live!”
Wow! I was blown away at his “child-like” faith! He understood at such a young age what many adults never seem to grasp. Too often people strive to “DO” instead of “BE” in relationship with Christ! We need to head my son’s words and “turn it around!” After all, we are called “Believers” of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said we are to abide in Him and then we will bear much fruit. In other words, we are to “Be-to-do,” not “do-to-be!”
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)
“It’s in Him that we live and move and have our being”. (Acts 17:28)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
We must focus on who God truly is and who we are in Him, then His life and power will flow in and through us and touch the lives of those around us. That is how we bear much fruit that is of Him.
What proceeded from my son’s heart that morning will forever be written on my heart. I pray it will be on your’s as well.
